Build a World
“Play is the beginning of knowledge.”
George Dorsey
At Storycamp, we build the circus together. We provide opportunities for children between the ages of 6 and 12 to enjoy the natural world, take healthy risks, play, create, and share stories. Drawing from experiential education, adventure therapy, art therapy, and the natural world, our curriculum aims to engage children, celebrate their gifts and facilitate collaboration. The program continues to evolve as we strive to make it more inclusive.
The curriculum is grounded in collaborative storytelling, developing a narrative throughout the week that culminates in a performance. Through participating in circus activities such as juggling, stilt walking, clowning, and aerial acrobatics; art activities including puppetry, map-making, screen printing, painting; and elements of theater, we build and enter a world together. This is child-directed learning - teachers recognize the spark of interest and follow that to bring ideas together and facilitate a joyful learning experience.
We spend most of our time outside and venture out on a variety of field trips. Our instructors are professional artists and experienced educators who have worked with children throughout the world.
Ages
7-12
We will take children who are 6 following a conversation with a parent about readiness and the activities that can be challenging for younger kids. We have found that some 6 year olds are totally ready for camp and others may need another year.
